Gardening tips to keep your garden looking great.

It was a great summer. We took our usual break and like most people along the coast, drifted to the beach with the children.  While we were all enjoying an almost unbroken series of great beach days, looking back with Autumn’s hindsight, they came at a price.  Below are three gardening tips sure to help boost some life into your garden.Continue Reading

Cottage Garden

Description

This lovely cottage garden has been designed and created by our team at Ocean Road Landscaping in the Geelong region.  The brief was to create a cottage garden in keeping with the towns heritage area.  I love the use of colour in this garden, with vegetables planted in among the perennials.  Stone walling, stepping pavers, and decked steps are great features in this cottage garden landscape design.  Generous steps lead to the a timber arbor, creating an outdoor room.

Its about garden design

Written by Peter Shaw

One of the things that still surprises me after years of making gardens, is how many people get themselves into trouble. And from what I can gather, most of them have ended up with issues in their garden simply because they did what they were told without thinking and didn’t do a garden design. They show me gardens that don’t suit their needs, don’t suit the location and don’t have future flexibility built in. That’s something I believe every garden design should cover. And it’s so easy to get right if you follow a few simple steps…Continue Reading

Landscape garden

Description

This landscape garden won the 2014 Landscape Victoria Awards for “Plants In the Landscape”.  With its natural Stingy Bark twisted trees, the design highlights and enhances these beautiful sculptural trees.  The plants are the landscape, attracting wildlife and frogs, with evidence of children climbing and playing in this space.  The use of north facing sun has been harnessed in the court yard close to the house, offering a completely different micro-climate, and protection from the southerly breeze.

This landscape garden was in the Open Gardens Australia for a special twilight event in January 2014 & 2015.  With features such as decking, stonewalls and plantings that are drought hardy and indigenous. Monies raised from these garden openings were donated to the Anglesea CFA.

Plants in Landscape Award –Landscape Victoria Judge, Bryan Rankin- Lifetime Member said…

“WOW! This is an exceptional garden. The plants in this garden are the landscape. The existing trees have been made features in the overall landscape, and new plantings have been done to compliment and further highlight the existing trees.

The use of native plants in a structured manner has worked really well, and the retention of an undisturbed strip of indigenous vegetation has been sensitively incorporated into the landscape.

It was also great to see that this was a space that was explored and utilised by the whole family.”

Description

This garden shows use of curves and drought hardy plantings for a garden that is low maintenance.  Some of the photos for this fire pit garden are during construction, which show the curves and stonework to its best advantage.  After planting, the details in the fire pit garden are more about taking a walk in the garden and enjoying it around every turn
